All play and no work makes Rover a dull dog

The familiar phrase, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” means hard work without time for recreation is not good for one's health. On June 23, many dogs will feel anything but dull because they get to go to work with their owners on for National Take Your Dog to Work Day. Thousands of business companies in the United States and Canada plan to participate in the event that was started eight years ago by Pet Sitters International. According to a survey by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, many Americans believe pets at work lower absenteeism and encourage camaraderie amongst employees. Plus, with the help of canine backup, employees are less likely to have to work their fingers to the bone because many paws (I mean hands) make light work.

So who’s going to show up at the conference table? Here are a few of our guesses.

Alpha Dog -The Boss’s Dog. This is a bossy breed.
Compulsive worker dog – This dog belongs to the stress puppy, the person who thrives on being stressed-out and whiny.
Alpha Geek Dog – Watch out. This dog child of the Alpha Geek, the most knowledgeable, technically proficient person in an office, drools on the keyboard!
Border collie - The Office Snoop needs a dog that can prairie dog – that is, jump high enough to peek over the office cubicle to see what’s going on on the other side.
Blabrador retriever – The Office Gossip’s dog is a Heinz 57 mix of Blood Hound and Labrador. He loves to talk!
Moot Point - The Office Bore also owns mutt (Malamute and an English Pointer).
New found asset hound – The Office Manager’s mixed breed (Bassett hound New Foundland) is always sniffing for money to make ends meet.

If you take your pup to the office, remember to pack a doggy bag for lunch, and at the end of the day, check out one of the Canine Cocktail Hours at a chic place like the Hotel Indigo in Chicago.
